Christine Todd Whitman: We Believe in the Rule of Law

April 25, 2024byby

Kettering Senior Fellow Christine Todd Whitman joined an amicus brief in the US Supreme Court case Trump v. United States—a case that has oral arguments this week and will decide whether a former president has absolute immunity from criminal prosecution. Whitman recently spoke to Kettering Foundation chief external affairs officer Brad Rourke about that case and more—including what it looks like when a nation loses its hold on rule of law and begins to slip toward authoritarianism. Whitman is former Republican governor of New Jersey, former EPA Administrator under President George W. Bush, and author of the 2005 book, It’s My Party Too: The Battle of the Heart for the Heart of the GOP and the Future of America. Whitman is co-chair of the Forward Party and the States United Democracy Center.
