Alice Young-Basora

Executive Director, The Dayton International Peace Museum

Alice Young-Basora, a Kettering Foundation 2026 Dayton Democracy Fellow, is the executive director of the Dayton International Peace Museum, where she leads efforts to inspire dialogue and action for peace, democracy, and justice through education, exhibitions, and community engagement. She previously served as the museum’s director of education, shaping impactful programs, such as Peace 101, that connect young people and lifelong learners to global peace initiatives and democratic values. Young-Basora’s career spans education, the arts, community advocacy, and nonprofit leadership. A former middle school science teacher, she developed innovative curricula that blended science and creativity, including founding and creating an extracurricular class called Art-ology, which united biology and art. She later launched Nina Carina, LLC, a successful jewelry design business where she conducted hands-on workshops for children and adults. Her dedication to education and community care extends far beyond traditional classrooms. Young-Basora previously served as a victim’s advocate, work that continues to inform her approach to justice, empathy, and restorative practices. She now brings that same commitment to her service on the Hamilton County Juvenile Court’s Advisory Committee, where she contributes to efforts that support youth, strengthen families, and promote fair and compassionate systems. Young-Basora has also served as a wildlife rehabilitator at Brukner Nature Center, an instructor at the Yellow Springs Community Children’s Center, and a board member for multiple arts and theater organizations. She holds a bachelor of science in biology from Cleveland State University and is a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society. She is also a proud member of the Rotary Club of Dayton. Passionate about fostering understanding, inclusive democracy, civic participation, and advocacy, Young-Basora continues to expand the museum’s reach, ensuring it remains a hub for connection, reflection, belonging, and action in the pursuit of a more just, democratic, and peaceful world.
