Ashlee Hammond
Branch Manager, West Library Branch, Dayton Metro Library; Board of Directors, Kiwanis Club of Dayton
A native Daytonian and Kettering Foundation 2026 Dayton Democracy Fellow, Ashlee Marie Hammond grew up in the Madden Hills and Westwood areas. She attended Resurrection Catholic School and Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School. She is the mother of a 9-year-old autistic and bright boy, Ashton. Hammond earned her associate’s degree in early childhood education from Sinclair College, bachelor’s degree in education from Ashford University, and her master’s degree in library and information science from Kent State University. She is an alumnus of the Black Leadership Development Program through Parity, Inc. and the Neighborhood Institute Leadership Program. She is currently on the board of directors for the Kiwanis Club of Dayton. Her library career began in 2011 as a library aide. Through the years, she has continued to grow within the Dayton Metro Library system, working as a patron services assistant, teen services librarian, interim assistant branch manager, and assistant branch manager. In March 2025, she became the branch manager of the library’s West Branch. Hammond has always been inspired by this simple quote: “She believed she could, and so she did.” She loves being involved with her community and bringing resources and events that support and enrich neighbors’ lives. Her library is more than a library of books; it is a community resource center for everyone to feel free to belong. Hammond is the creator of the Essence of West Boutique, a resource where West community patrons can donate items and shop for free. The West Branch has a community of vendors and community partners, known as the Wave Network, that help make the events at West magical for library patrons.
