James Martin joins the Kettering Foundation as Chief Financial Officer

The foundation is strengthening its capacity to meet the needs of democracy in a changing world.


DAYTON, OHIO (August 16, 2023) – The Charles F. Kettering Foundation today announced that James (Jim) Martin has been selected as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at the Charles F. Kettering Foundation. Martin brings a wealth of experience working as a CFO in the nonprofit sector and a deep understanding of the Kettering Foundation, its staff and its new strategic plan. Martin has government, nonprofit, and for-profit Chief Financial Officer experience.

In this leadership role, Martin will work closely with staff, senior leadership and the board of directors in carrying out Kettering’s mission to advance inclusive democracy by fostering citizen engagement, promoting government accountability and countering authoritarianism.

“I’m delighted that Jim has joined us as our new CFO,” said Sharon L. Davies, Kettering Foundation President and CEO. “He brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to our mission.”

Martin has previously served as the CFO for the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority, Ohio Education Association and Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund. Martin earned an MBA at Ohio State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and a Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO).
