Urban Strandberg

Sweden

Urban Strandberg, from Sweden, is cofounder and director of the International Youth Think Tank (IYTT). He is also an associate professor of political science at the University of Gothenburg and a senior lecturer at the Department of Law within the School of Business, Economics, and Law at the University of Gothenburg. His research field is public policy and constitutional policy with a special focus on local government and democracy. He teaches within the multidisciplinary BA and MA program of European studies.

For 10 years, Strandberg was director of European studies at the University of Gothenburg. During that time, he initiated double degree tracks with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the US, Fudan University in China, and the University of Konstanz in Germany. Also during his term, he called upon his international master’s students to organize public lunch events, called Brännpunkt Europa (Focal Point Europe). These events have grown into a vibrant, student-led organization. Strandberg has also been a guest editor for the European Review and the Journal of European Public Policy.

A political scientist by training, Strandberg is deeply committed to interdisciplinary collaborations. He has initiated, led, and carried out joint projects with experts across a wide spectrum of disciplines, including anthropology, architecture, art, chemistry, choreography, computer gaming, economics, engineering, history, law, mathematics, philosophy, photography, political science, psychotherapy, physics, religions, and sociology.
